Attendance
Whilst we recognise that children can get ill from time to time, our attendance expectation for all pupils is 98%. When pupils fall below this expectation, the academy will consider the support in place to help you raise your child’s attendance. Should your child’s attendance fall below 90% they will be classed as persistent absentee. It is at this point which we will invite parents into school to discuss our concerns and agree an action plan to improve attendance. We may share our concerns with the Education Welfare Officer.
Please call the school office by 8:00am on the day of your child’s absence to report it. A member of staff will return your call to check how your child is doing and offer any support needed. This helps us ensure your child’s wellbeing and keep our records accurate.
If the school office has not been contacted for the reason for your child’s absence, the school office will telephone the first contact for the reason for the absence. Should school staff have no response, they will then follow safeguarding procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the child. This will include:
- Telephone calls to Parents from day one to check on how you are all doing and if you need anything from school
- Telephone calls to other emergency contacts
- Home visits
- Referrals to the Education Welfare Officer
- Referrals to the Police for a safe and well check
Please see below a summary of our procedures to help us safeguard your child. Attendance is monitored regularly across the Federation.
